The aims and objects to be pursued by the Academy are as follows:

• Study of the life and works of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar and their impact on the society;
• Preservation and exhibition of literary works, memorabilia related to Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar through museum, library and archive.
• Promotion of original research and publication on Vidyasagar.
• Disseminating knowledge to the community through its activities of organizing meetings, discussions, seminars, symposia etc.
• Execution of any other work assigned to it by the Department of Higher Education of the Government of West Bengal on the life, work and vision of Vidyasagar.

The object shall always remain restricted within the scope of section 4(2) of the Act of 1961.

The above objects will be attained within the scope of prevailing laws of the country.
