The nineteenth century holds immense significance in the history of Bengali literature, culture, and art. This century witnessed the emergence and development of Bengali prose-it was the age of the Renaissance. Among those who were true pioneers in shaping the intellect and character of the Bengali people during this time, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar stands out as a foremost figure. Braving the oppressive gaze of the British rulers, he emerged as the true teacher of the Bengali people. His thoughts on education, awareness of women's issues, social reform, and literary contributions enriched Bengali literature and culture. He laid the foundation for the future by bridging the East and the West.
This curriculum will serve as an effective aid in understanding both the nineteenth century and Vidyasagar. Our hope is that this course transcends the boundaries of time and place to become truly universal.
